The term "topical" refers to a substance applied to a specific area of the skin- typically lotions, salves, creams, balms, or oils that are used with the intentions of helping pain, rashes, or other inflammation on the body.
A "cannabis topical" is a lotion, balm, salve, oil, cream, etc. that is infused with cannabis -typically an extract- that when applied to your body, you absorb a small amount of weed - which helps reduce inflammation and pain!
My brother and I joke that using a topical is like putting a pain pill directly on the spot you are hurting. If you are in any sort of pain, using a good topical is truly magical!
I use topicals on my
back pain
when I hurt myself working out or being clumsy
on my feet at the end of a long day
on my stomach and back when I have period cramps
on my knees before a hike
on my neck and back when driving / traveling
on my temples for a headache
on itchy skin when I get a rash (unscented only)
Unfortunately, there are so many brands out there that don't use high quality cannabis, or only use isolate CBD, or just THC, or super small amounts of either - all of things which will make the experience using a topical less enjoyable than with one that is high quality and effective!
I know many people who are weary of purchasing another topical because they previously tried one that didn't do sh*t. I get it! I've tried some crappy ones too.. some that smell really weird and others that leave a weird residue - that's not fun.
That's why I took the time to put together this blog and share this info with you- in hopes of more people having the opportunity to get connected with a topical that actually makes them feel good.
My personal favorite products come from the brand High Desert Pure. They are a small, family company based out of Bend, Oregon and have been in the legal market since the beginning. They also have a presence in California but they are very well known in Oregon.
Their Clinical Strength Lotions have been the top 2 best selling products in the state for the past 3 years, with their Big Balm coming up third! (With 900 mg of THC and 900 mg of CBD how could it not?!)
The Big Balm is a personal favorite of mine- I fell on my hip rollerskating a few years ago and had a HUGE hematoma that I thought I was going to have to get drained, (seriously, it looked like a third butt cheek) but I rubbed the Big Balm on it everyday and after a few weeks, the swelling went down completely!
They have products ranging from $6 all the way up to $80 (or so depending on where you shop). The prices are not only based off of the size of the product, but also the mg in the product. For example, the Light Tropic and Silky Spearmint Lotions are about $24 and they are in the same bottle as the Clinical Strength Ginger Lime and Menthol Lotions which are about $80 because they have 5x the amount of THC and CBD in them. In theory, the relief will be more intense and last longer with the Clinical Strength ones.
So not only does High Desert Pure have a product for every budget, they also have a product for every level of pain and preference of application. AND a satisfaction guarantee - so if you're unhappy for whatever reason you can go back to where you bought it or email HDP directly to inquire about how to swap for another product of your choosing!
If you're curious about how to try some of HDP topicals, you can check out their website dispensary finder and CBD products!https://www.highdesertpure.com/dispensaries/
Unfortunately the THC Topicals can only be sold in stores in OR and CA as of right now, but hopefully that will change soon! https://www.hdpcbd.com/
